Eagles and Glaciers: Exploring Skagway and Juneau in SE Alaska - Up to the Arctic Part 4

Because its there. Plus, it will make a great adventure for our growing boys who are learning how to dream BIG. Why not come along for the ride?

Sometimes we live on our sailboat, other time we explore Terra Firma with our OVRLND rig. Either way, its always an adventure!

In this video we cross the border from British Columbia to Alaska. The scale of the mountains begins to grow and we take the opportunity to spend two days in Skagway, Alaska before taking the ferry to Juneau. In Skagway we explore the town, take care of errands, and visit the Dyea Flats. The flats were spectacular because it gave us an open view of the water and surrounding mountains. We only wish we had spent more time boondocking.

Our ferry ride to Juneau held a bit of a surprise. About 2 hours into the voyage, we received notification of a huge earthquake near the Kamchatca peninsula in Russia. There was even a Tsunami watch issued for our area. With 5 hours left in our transit it did cause a bit of concern but shortly after the watch was lifted for our area. We arrived in Juneau around 10:30pm that evening.

In Juneau we settled in at the Mendenhall Campground for five days. This was our basecamp to explore the Mendenhall Glacier, Nugget Falls, and Eagle Beach.
