This crossing is located on the SRY Fraser Valley Subdivision and the CP Mission Subdivision. Crossing is owned and maintained by CP.
Bell sequence: Both bells ring through whole activation.
Horn Setting: Horn zone.
Signal on the left: A Safetran base, a Safetran gate mechanism with RECO LED gate lights, 3 pairs of WCH 12x20" lights with GE/Harmon LEDs and a WCH mechanical bell.
Signal on the right: A Safetran base, a Safetran gate mechanism with RECO LED gate lights, 2 pairs of WCH 12x20" lights with GE/Harmon LEDs and a WCH mechanical bell.
While heading out to Abbotsford to do some railfanning, I decided to check the SRY Huntingdon Yard to see if SRY's westbound Valley Turn was about to head west. Sure enough, they were switching! After grabbing some gas, I went to this crossing, as it was the last crossing in Abbotsford (or maybe even the Fraser Valley) to still have a pair of mechanical bells at it. After waiting for about 30-45 minutes, I heard a familiar K5LA in the distance, and SRY's westbound Valley Turn came crawling through with SRY 385 leading the rest of SRY's 6-axle fleet with 5 cars. They would later switch a couple of grain elevators north of here, so I was able to see them again with a slightly longer train at McCallum Road.
This crossing is certainly a nice one to have gotten recorded, so I'm glad that I did. These signals were installed around the mid-late 1990s by the CP Rail System. The original gate lights and WCH 8" lights have since been replaced, but the one thing that stands out is the fact this crossing still retains its original pair of WCH mechanical bells! As of now, this is the last crossing to still retain a pair of mechanical bells in the Fraser Valley (as all the others in the valley that have a mechanical bell usually are the lone bell, or are paired with an E-Bell). They both still sound pretty healthy, so hopefully they remain for years to come. The hinged gate on the far signal has a fault in it, as it doesn't lower all the way! Hopefully it has since been fixed then.
