We have a good look at a WW2 Australian Field Gun.
They were a British Gun, manufactured here for the Australian Military use. Then later in WW2 we adapted from a type1 to a type2.
Main Assembly contractors
during WW2 included:
Maribyrnong, Victoria: A government-owned factory.
Charles Ruwolt Pty Ltd (Richmond, Victoria).
General-Motors Holden's Ltd (Pagewood, New South Wales)
During WW2 ,
types of ammunition
for the 25-pounder included;
High Explosive (HE)
Armour-Piercing (AP)
Smoke
Illumination
Chemical (Gas)
Propaganda
In South Australia we had munitions factories that made the 25-pounder munitions and they were ;
FINSBURY MUNITIONS FACTORY
February 1941 to 1945
Produced cartridge cases and shell fuses.
Inc the 25-pounder QF
and,
PORT PIRIE MUNITIONS ANNEXE
Production commenced in 1942
25 Pound QF
Manufacturing the shell and casting Quick Firing Ammunition for this Gun.
Munitions for the 25-Pounder Gun were filled at
SALISBURY MUNITIONS FACTORY
Filling and assembling
25-pounder ammunition. February 1941
Note Salisbury Munitions Factory did far more than 25-pounder completion.
