Meet a remarkable centenarian from the historic village of Daftu, located in Kasur District (formerly part of Lahore). He has witnessed Punjab’s culture, love, and unity before the Partition of 1947. Even after Partition, he often visited his Hindu friends in Indian Punjab, where his grandfather was a respected Numberdar and a renowned wrestler. Before Partition, his family owned agricultural land near a Sikh Gurdwara, and the village was famous for the historic well of Punjab Singh. He recalls how Dafto was once entirely a Sikh village, where the wealthiest woman, Ishar Kaur, donated 80 acres of land to the local Gurdwara and built a grand palace—now nearly in ruins. Today, the old Gurdwara still stands as a silent witness to history, housing several families despite its deteriorating condition.
