Eric Clapton song Layla played on just an acoustic guitar. The song was originally written and released in 1970 on Derek and the Dominos album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs". My version here is from his 1992 "Unplugged" album, which was from the TV music show "MTV Unplugged".
It was inspired by Eric Clapton’s unrequited love for Pattie Boyd, who was married to Clapton’s close friend, George Harrison of The Beatles. Clapton wrote the song during a period of intense emotional turmoil because he was deeply in love with her but couldn’t express it openly.
Clapton later said he experimented with the slower acoustic style almost as a joke during rehearsal but the band liked it so much it became the final arrangement.
The "Unplugged" album became one of the best-selling live albums in history, winning several Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year in 1993. While the song peaked at # 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it also reached # 1 on Billboard's Album Rock Tracks chart.
This video is my performance on 9/21/25 in my living room.
