[Episode#8] What is Balk?

1. Rule number 1 is once you’ve come into your set position,
the only thing you can move is your head and your eyes.
If you twist your knee, or you move your shoulders,
all these things are gonna constitute balk.

2. Rule number 2 is you start your delivery and then you stop. It’s gonna be balk!!

3. Next balk rule is you can’t fake the first base without stepping off the runner.
I have to throw it!
If you step off the rubber, you become regular fielder, so you can do whatever you want.

4. If I throw to an unoccupied base, that’s gonna be a balk.
If I have a runner on first and I do a pickoff move to second where there is nobody there,
that’s gonna be a balk.

5. Next balk rule is that you have to come stop when you are in set position.
Otherwise, it is a balk!

6. Next balk rule is you can’t do a quick pitch.
If the batter is just now getting in the box, he is not ready and I deliver it,
it is a balk!

7. Next is once you’ve come set, in addition to not being able to move your body,
you can’t separate your hands a second time.
Once they come set, they’ve got to stay together the entire time until you deliver the ball.

8. Next is you can’t drop the ball once you’ve come set.

9. Next balk rule is you can’t pitch while facing away from the batter.

11. Balk rule number 11 is you can’t go on to the rubber without the ball.

12. The next balk rule is you can’t unnecessarily delay the game.
If you’re taking too long, that is a balk!

13. The next balk rule is the catcher must be in the catcher’s box.
