(24 Jun 2019) Iran faces "economic terrorism" as the United States piles on sanctions, the country's ambassador to Japan said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters in Tokyo, Morteza Rahmani Movahed urged the international community to stop the US actions to ease tension in the region.
President Donald Trump pulled out of Tehran's 2015 nuclear deal with world powers and levied punishing U.S. sanctions.
Iran has said the Trump's administration is aiming to cripple its economy and force policy changes by re-imposing sanctions, including on Iranian oil exports.
The country has threatened to break out of the deal unless Europe mitigates what Tehran calls Trump's "economic warfare."
Iran also appeared ready to push back against the regional buildup of U.S. forces after shooting down an American drone it says violated its airspace last week.
