Beijing, China - 20 January 2026
1. An explosion occurred outside a Chinese restaurant in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Monday afternoon, resulting in casualties among Chinese nationals. Some media reports said that the extremist organization Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack. What is the Foreign Ministry’s comment?
On January 19, an explosion occurred outside a Chinese restaurant in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, causing multiple casualties. One Chinese national was killed and five were injured. We express our deep condolences to the deceased and our sincere sympathies to the injured.
China has lodged an emergency demarche with the Afghan side, urging it to make every effort to treat the injured, further take effective measures to protect the safety of Chinese nationals, projects, and institutions in Afghanistan, promptly find out the truth, and punish the perpetrators. The Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan has sent personnel to the hospital where the injured are being treated to convey condolences.
China strongly condemns and resolutely opposes terrorism in all forms and supports Afghanistan and countries in the region in jointly combating all forms of terrorist violent acts. Given the current security situation in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again advises Chinese nationals to refrain from traveling to Afghanistan in the near term. Chinese nationals and enterprises already in Afghanistan should heighten vigilance, strengthen security measures, and evacuate from high-risk areas as soon as possible.
2. The U.S. government recently announced the establishment of the Gaza Board of Peace to oversee post-war transitional governance in the Gaza Strip and invited multiple countries to join. What is the Foreign Ministry’s comment?
China has received the invitation from the U.S.
3. Will China accept that invitation to the Board of Peace?
I just answered the relevant question. I have nothing to add.
4. U.S. President Trump has been in office for one year, during which his foreign policy moves have drawn close international attention, including tough measures on the Venezuela issue and recent remarks threatening to annex Greenland. How does China assess Trump’s foreign policy over the past year and its impact on the international situation? In addition, regarding reports that Trump plans to visit China in April this year, can China provide more details?
Over the past year, China-U.S. relations have experienced ups and downs and achieved overall dynamic stability. This is in the common interests of the two peoples and meets the common expectations of the international community.
The course of China-U.S. relations over the past year has once again shown that cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation harms both. China and the U.S. should explore the right way for the two major countries to get along on the basis of equality, respect, and mutual benefit.
China is willing to work with the U.S. side to promote the stable development of China-U.S. relations, while firmly safeguarding its own sovereignty, security, and development interests.
Regarding the specific question you asked about, I have nothing to offer.
5. Will China urge the Syrian government to stop military attacks on Syrian Kurdish civilians?
