Exploring Croquet Island | Wrecks and Relics

Описание: In this episode of Wrecks and Relics, we find ourselves anchored in a beautiful lagoon at Croquet Island, taking shelter from a strong wind warning. While waiting for the weather to clear for the 27-mile trek to Lizard Island, it’s time to head ashore for an island adventure and some much-needed leg exercise.
​Croquet Island is a place of incredible history and somber reminders of the sea's power. Walking along the shoreline, we uncover the scattered shrapnel and heavy framework of a massive underwater mine that detonated on the rocks years ago. From copper detonator casings to the heavy d-shackles that once held it to the seabed, the relics tell a story of a dangerous past.
​The exploration doesn't stop there. We discover the tragic remains of a wrecked yacht and managed to find a detached hatch frame half a mile down the beach that belonged to the vessel. We also find mysterious maritime equipment, including an old bowsprit fitting and a government wave buoy. Join us as we piece together these nautical puzzles and prepare for the next leg of the journey toward Port Douglas.
