I manage to get even closer by the end. Hyrax scream? You can see down his throat!
At first you may think he is upset. He isn't. He's just talking with other families a few hundred meters away. It seems like a telephone system. He is undisturbed by my presence. In fact sometimes when I heard him yelling I would go outside and pick some of his favorite leaves and he would gladly stop the loud report and munch, before going back to his weird discussion. The old males seem the most gentle with me. I can sometimes give them a good butt scratching. (There is a video for that too!)
