My friend Frank and I board the Crown Princess cruise ship for a 15-day cruise to Hawaii from San Pedro, California on a 5-day voyage across the Pacific to our first port-of-call on the island of Oʻahu.

Part 1: During our time in Honolulu, we strolled to Waikiki Beach at the Sheraton Hotel, hiked to the stunning Akaka Falls, and explored the Pana'ewa Rainforest Gardens & Zoo in Hilo. Our adventure took an unexpected turn when our tour bus broke down just before we could visit the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Farm.

Part 2: After a one-hour delay reaching Lahaina, Maui, we finally boarded a tender boat to the shore. We spent a brief time at the nearest beach before heading out to sea to board The Atlantis Submarine. During the submarine tour, we explored the ocean floor and admired a variety of fish, sharks, and the Carthaginian—an old cargo ship sunk to create an artificial reef for coral and marine life. Due to limited time, we returned to the ship via tender boat to ensure we were on time for its departure and overnight sail to Nawiliwili, Kauai.
