In this video we visit the new Edithvale station on the Frankston line in Melbourne's south east. We see a variety of different trains arrive and depart the new station including Comeng, Siemens and X'trapolis.
Edithvale station along with Chelsea and Bonbeach were recently rebuilt following a 10 week shutdown of the line to remove five level crossings, and all opened on Monday 22nd November 2021. Edithvale in particular was rebuilt to remove the level crossing at Edithvale Road, and permanently close the level crossing at Lochiel Avenue.
All three stations are very similar in appearance; being built just below ground level in a light trench and an overpass, and utilising natural looking materials inspired by the coastal environment near the stations (which I really dig btw). Each station has a slightly different colour palette for the metal perforated panels, with Edithvale having a grey colour scheme.
At the time of opening the platforms, entrances and overhead footbridge were largely complete, with stairs and lifts operational with minor touches still needed. There is still plenty of work to be done on the ramps and additional station entrances (I'd say out of the three new stations Edithvale feels the least complete; some of the metal panels on the ramps weren't properly secured and banging in the wind). Work will continue into 2022 to fully complete the station
