Описание: The Edakkal Caves in Wayanad is a natural wonder which dates back to 6000 BC andit is the only place in India where you can find stone age carvings. 


Edakkal Cave translates to “a stone in between” as it looks like a huge boulder wedged between two bigger stones. One can reach the Edakkal Caves only by trekking up the Ambukutty Hills.


Edakkal Cave was first discovered by Fred Fawcett during his hunting trip to Wayanad in 1890. Fred Fawcett was the then Superintendent of Police of the Malabar district. And he further discovered that the caves were the habitat of the Neolithic people.


It is also discovered that Edakkal Caves has some links with Indus Valley Civilization.


As the Edakkal Cave is set very high on the Ambukutty Hills, it requires a 45-minute climb to reach the cave. And the trek passes through sprawling lush green coffee plantations and the cool breeze accompanying make you zestful.



The cave system consists of 2 an upper and lower cave. Upper cave was closed for us due to pandemic situation. October to May is the best time to visit Edakkal Caves.


The Pookot Lake, located 3km south of Vythiri town, is the most frequented tourist spot in the entire Wayanad district of Kerala. 

 

Pookot Lake is a natural fresh water lake nestled amidst evergreen forests and wooded slopes. The pathway around the lake is lined by thick bushes and tall trees which further add to the overall charm. 


A fresh-water aquarium filled with an excellent array of fishes is a major attraction for tourists on their tour to Pookot Lake. The recreational facilities at the spot include Boating in the lake, Children's Park, and Handicrafts and Spices Emporium.


The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has arranged boating facilities which is one of the major activity/ attraction at Pookode Lake that draws the attention of many tourists.
