The Edakkal caves are two natural caves at a remote location at Edakkal Wayana district. Edakkal is the only known place for Stone Age carvings in South India . Edakkal caves are famous for its pictorial paintings ( cave paintings) , which are considered to be of 6000 BC .Edakkal caves are among the oldest human settlements ever discovered . The carving are of human and animal figures, tools used by human and of symbols yet to be deciphered, suggesting the presence of a prehistoric settlement .Edakkal Cave is located at Ambukuthi hills in Wayanad district .
