turning 21, your last milestone birthday

like, it’s supposed to be this huge deal — the last “unlock” of adulthood. casinos, renting cars without weird fees, drinking legally in the US. but when i actually hit 21, it didn’t feel like a new chapter. it felt like… the last chapter of something. after 16, 18, 20 — all those birthdays that came with exciting milestones — there’s nothing age-based left to look forward to. from here on, you just get older.

in this vid i talk about why 21 feels like the end of “big birthdays,” the weird cultural void that comes after, and the pressure to figure your life out right now. i’ve been thinking a lot about how we kill experimentation by rushing into success too soon — when these should be the years we try the wrong things, change our minds, and see what sticks. i also get into the whole identity vs intimacy thing, why it’s okay to still be clueless, and how our generation might have more freedom than any before… if we don’t waste it trying to tick boxes.

don’t take it too seriously, but also… maybe do. if you’ve felt this weird mix of “wow i’m grown” and “wait i know nothing,” comment your thoughts. i’d love to hear if 21 (or whatever “last milestone” age for you) felt the same.
