Two Days in Zurich, Switzerland: Old Town, Cocktails, Alpine Day Trip & Swiss Trains | October 2023

Описание: After saying goodbye to the Matterhorn, we boarded the train from Zermatt to Zurich for the final stop of our European adventure. What followed was a mix of lively Old Town streets, craft beer, incredible cocktails, and a full day exploring some of Switzerland’s most beautiful mountain towns.

Zurich felt different from the quiet alpine villages we had been visiting. It was bigger, louder, and full of energy. From lakeside views to winding medieval streets and an unforgettable day trip through the Swiss Alps, it was the perfect place to end our trip.

Day 1: Trains to Zurich, Old Town & Dad Birthday Cocktails
We started the day saying goodbye to Zermatt before catching the train to Visp and connecting onward to Zurich. After arriving in the early afternoon, we walked through the city to our hotel and immediately set out to explore.

Our first stop was a microbrewery near our hotel, Bierwerk Zürich, where we cooled off with a well earned beer after a warm walk across the city. From there we wandered into Zurich’s Old Town, discovering narrow streets, historic buildings, and a much livelier energy than the mountain villages we had just left.

To celebrate Dad’s birthday, we stopped at Old Crow, one of Zurich’s most famous cocktail bars, where the drinks were every bit as good as the reputation. After exploring a bit more of the city, we ended the evening with a traditional Swiss dinner near the train station before heading back to the hotel for one last round of drinks and a good night’s sleep.

Day 2: Swiss Alps Day Trip with Pedro
The next morning started with breakfast at our hotel before heading out on an incredible private tour through some of Switzerland’s most beautiful regions with our guide Pedro from Tours by Locals.

Over the course of the day we traveled through Lucerne, Bern, Interlaken, Grindelwald, and several stunning alpine valleys. Along the way we stopped for a breathtaking walk through Aare Gorge, where towering canyon walls and rushing glacial water made for one of the most memorable landscapes of the trip.

Lunch was lakeside in Brienz at Restaurant Wildbach, surrounded by mountains and crystal clear water. Later in the afternoon we stopped in Lauterbrunnen for coffee and sweets while taking in views of one of the most beautiful valleys in Switzerland.

After a full day of glaciers, waterfalls, mountain villages, and winding alpine roads, Pedro got us safely back to Zurich just in time for a light dinner and drinks before preparing for the long journey home.

Farewell Switzerland
Zurich was the perfect final chapter of our Swiss journey. A vibrant city paired with access to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. From alpine villages to canyon walks and lakeside lunches, Switzerland delivered unforgettable moments at every turn.

What started as 40 from August to August expanded to the start of 2023 through August 2024 to celebrate Kassie turning 40. Due to other people planning things that we wanted to join before August 2023. This is the celebration of “OMG Kassie survived 40 years. We never thought it would happen.” Maybe the next 40 I will be more careful so it will not be so surprising.
