Nestled in the Alps and full of unexpected delights - like public cow parades, castles, vineyards, and sculptural surprises - Vaduz is a tiny capital with a huge heart.

Day 1:After a scenic drive from Innsbruck with MyDayTrip, we arrived in Vaduz and checked into the beautiful and perfectly located Giessen Hotel. We strolled the riverside Solarisweg path into town, stopping at the peaceful Visitor Center and exploring the charming sculpture-dotted city center. A late lunch at Brasserie Burg hit the spot before we hopped on the LieMobil public bus to visit Liechtensteiner Brauhaus for a delicious dinner and some excellent local brews.

Day 2:We woke up to a parade of cows heading to their morning grazing! After an amazing breakfast at the hotel (seriously, one of the best), we wandered back along Solarisweg, past the two light prisms, and up through town past the Red House to the stunning Vaduz Castle—the residence of the current prince. No royal sightings, but the view over Vaduz was unforgettable. From there, we walked down to the vineyards and enjoyed a wine tasting and lunch at the Prince of Liechtenstein Winery. After a bit of boutique shopping at Tamara Nutt, we strolled across the wooden Alte Rheinbrücke into Switzerland (and yes, we came back!). A coffee at Gasthof Au and watching cows return for the evening was the perfect end before a cozy balcony dinner of snacks back at the hotel.

Day 3:One last sunrise breakfast before our MyDayTrip driver picked us up and whisked us away to our next adventure—Switzerland!

What started as 40 from august to august has expanded to the start of 2023 to August 2024. Due to other people planning things that we want to join… before August 2023. This is the celebration of “omg Kassie survived 40 years - we never thought it would happen.” Maybe the next 40, I’ll be more careful so it won’t be so surprising. 40 “experiences” have to be #1 unique, #2 require the day and night in the location to count, #3 that’s it.

Originally from Iowa (Kassie) and Kansas (Rick), we met in Kansas in 2005 and immediately found that we had so much in common - including our desire to someday see the world. We now live in NYC and quickly started catching up on travel after our first (just us) international trip to Iceland in 2015.
