On a recent trip to the historical and picturesque city of York, we found a 100% Vegan Asian restaurant called The Orchid.

Located on George Hudson street the Orchid serves Asian Fusion food. They state that their chefs is excited to present their vision of modern vegan cooking and they did not disappoint.

The restaurants had a nice ambience and was adorned with heart balloons as it was Valentines day week.

The menu had a large range of soups, starters, main dishes and sides. Everything you would expect from a high quality Asian restaurant including a number of different plant based meat substitutes. There were so many lovely sounding dishes that it was hard not to order more!

We started with some Vegan crackers, which we always tend to do with Asian meals, but also because our daughter would not have gone home satisfied without them!

We started with salt and pepper king prawn, which was lovely crisp and tasted very authentic. We then had aromatic shredded Vegan duck, which we think was made from seitan. With the pancake, cucumber, spring onions and sauce, this was absolutely delicious and we could have eaten more.

For our main course we shared General Tso’s tofu which was medium spiced tofu with peppers, onion and broccoli in a sauce.

Fried noodles with vegetables to help soak up some of the delicious sauces.

Crispy shredded vegan beef which came rich and fruity OK sauce. Again this was lovely crispy and very authentic

Sweet and Sour King prawn which was similar to our starter but this time it was in the sweet and sticky sauce. We think the king prawns were potato starch based, but either way they were really delicious.

And of course we ordered some light Jasmine rice, again to soak up some of those delicious flavours.

The Orchid is a simply incredible restaurant if you want authentic tasting Vegan Asian cuisine. We honestly enjoyed every dish we ordered.

The staff were also friendly and prompt. We really can’t recommend this restaurant enough. So if you are visiting York make sure you go for a meal at The Orchid.
