According to a powerful ancient belief, Ravana performed intense penance to please Lord Shiva. Shiva granted him the boon that if he could build five stairways (paudiyan) to heaven in a single day, he would gain divine powers.

Ravana successfully built the stairs as follows:

First Stairway – Har Ki Pauri, Haridwar

Second Stairway – Paudiwala Shiv Mandir, Sirmaur (Swarg Ki Dusri Seedhi)

Third Stairway – Churdhar (Chureshwar Mahadev)

Fourth Stairway – Kinnaur Kailash
