This is the 7th road trip video in the series, taken during the covid-19 pandemic, on the 5th of August 2020. Restrictions were partly suspended to allow for people in Ireland to go on staycations while travellers from other countries were not allowed in without a two-week quarantine. This meant quiet roads and towns. (We had actually never seen it this quiet in summertime.)
If possible, please watch at the highest 4K definition (2160p), for a better quality video experience, even when you don't have a 4K screen. 1440p also gives a good picture on bigger screens while 1080p and 720p will probably be fine on smaller screens. (Some devices won't let you go higher than 1080p).
In this video we’re visiting the Iveragh peninsula. We're driving it in a clockwise direction because there were no coaches on the road due to the pandemic. In normal times it is better to drive it counter-clockwise as buses are only allowed to drive it in that direction and it is better to go the same way in a car when they are on the road. We’re starting just outside Killarney on the N71, direction Kenmare, also called the Ring of Kerry. We’re not stopping at well-known tourists spots because there are too many people and there is a pandemic on, so we want to avoid crowds. We’re passing the lakes, Ladies View, Moll’s gap and drive through rugged countryside towards Kenmare. (We don’t have any footage of Kenmare because of heavy rain showers). We pick up right after Kenmare on the N70 and continue on to Sneem where the video ends. Apologies for a few out of focus bits in the video. Don’t know what happened there. It might have been because the camera got wet. The next video will start in Sneem.
00:00 – start
12:44 – passing Ladies View
20:55 – Moll’s Gap
29:48 – past Kenmare
46:25 – driving into Sneem
