In a cracked half-desert of dry gullies and sparse shrubs, a dominant creodont shadows a herd of primitive camels from the ridgelines, patiently selecting weakness before striking. It targets a limping young camel, explodes from cover, and brings it down in a violent dust-filled hit, feeding while scavenger birds circle overhead.
Lura, an immortal wanderer who still feels hunger, follows the birds and finds the carcass. She studies the wide, bone-cracking bite marks, reads pawprints and blood stains like a map, and realizes a new apex hunter rules this land. She keeps moving through the maze of ravines, testing unstable stone and learning the terrain—because if she can’t outmuscle the predator, she can weaponize the ground itself.
When they finally clash, Lura faces the creodont head-on—dodging its first rush and landing a brutal kick to the jaw—but the beast’s raw power overwhelms her. It slams her into rock, pins her down, bites hard into her torso, then shakes and throws her like prey until she lies motionless. Convinced she’s dead, the creodont loses interest and walks away to find easier meals among the camels.
Hours later, Lura awakens, battered but alive, and accepts one truth: she must choose the battlefield. She tracks the creodont’s pattern—how it drags kills toward stone and height—until she reaches a canyon where the rim is cracked and fragile. There, she maps weak points, stacks loose rocks, and scratches guiding marks into stone, preparing a trap that uses gravity as the killing blow.
In the final chase, Lura deliberately draws the creodont onto the weakened rim. Each dodge forces its paws closer to the crumbling edge, and a well-timed kick shifts its weight onto the cracked ground until the earth gives way. The creodont plunges into the canyon and is left broken at the bottom, soon claimed by scavengers. With the predator’s reign ended, Lura turns from the cliff and walks into the sunset toward a new horizon—another age, another hunt.
