June fifteenth, 1944. Ten Downing Street, London. Nine days following D-Day. Allied forces continue their brutal struggle in Normandy, attempting desperately to break free from the beachhead. Casualties mount steadily with each passing day. The advance proceeds more slowly than anyone had anticipated. In his private study, Prime Minister Winston Churchill sits with General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Evening has settled in over London. Thick cigar smoke fills the room. "Ike," Churchill begins carefully. "We have a rather delicate matter to address." Eisenhower places his brandy glass down on the desk. That particular tone is unmistakable. Churchill is preparing to suggest something complicated and probably problematic. "What sort of delicate matter are we discussing?"
