Alstom, at its Derby Litchurch Lane Works in the UK hosted the largest-ever gathering of both historic and modern trains – The Greatest Gathering.
This three-day charity event, which is completely sold out, is part of the larger celebrations for Railway 200, a year-long event commemorating the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR) on September 27, 1825 – a milestone that marked the beginning of the modern railway era.
"Alstom’s history in the UK dates back to 1825, when Locomotion No. 1 made its famous journey on the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Through various mergers, the company that built the locomotive – Robert Stephenson and Company – became part of Alstom in 1989, and we are incredibly proud to continue that legacy of innovation," said Rob Whyte, Managing Director UK and Ireland at Alstom.
