After the first videos on Chernobyl and the Exclusion Zone, we're really getting to the heart of our journey. Today, I'll take you to Pripyat, the model city of the Soviet Union that inspired everyone in the USSR for their quality of life in the mid-1980s.
Although everyone associates the tragedy with Chernobyl or the Chernobyl power plant, Pripyat was actually the city truly destroyed by the effects of the explosion on April 26, 1986. In fact, we're just 3 km from the exploded reactor 4 (which we'll visit in the next episode!). I'll show you the city's iconic landmarks: the Pripyat swimming pool, the Ferris wheel with its abandoned and never-opened bumper cars, and the Pripyat stadium, which was supposed to have opened on May 1, 1986, just 5 days after the explosion.
