There are multiple ways of using the brickwall in detection dog training in a smart way. For sure we do not spend too much time here since we want to proceed towards real environments. Still, we can teach and train many useful skills and create certain experiences in a safe training environment, that can't be reached that easy else where. Compared to the Line Up we have a consistent sniffing on the wall, it is different facing all kinds of distractors while sniffing vs. running from box to box to have a quick sniff and discrimination decision. Also the dog learns to have the handler not in sight, which is a very important skill and it helps the dogs to become more independent.
Apart from what is shown here in the clip we use the wall for introducing all kinds of reward mechanisms, announced and unannounced ones, variable reinforcement, blank searches, handler tasks, on off leash searches, distractions from three different categories and many more.
