Smoke billowed from buildings in beleaguered Kobani on Monday as extremists tried to wrest control of the Syrian border town from Kurdish forces.
The Islamic State group launched its offensive to take Kobani in mid-September and has been battling Kurdish fighters since for control of the town which straddles Syria's border with Turkey.
Fighting between IS extremists and Kurdish forces has forced 200,000 people to flee to neighbouring Turkey.
A Syrian activist group said Sunday that the death toll in 40 days of fighting in and around the northern Syrian border town of Kobani has reached 815.
