Talk about FEA rule: two elements per thickness
👉Details in description👇
⚙ Description:
In video we discusses the "mythical two elements per sickness rule" in finite element analysis, which states that thin elements should have at least two elements per thickness for accurate results.
For my thoughts this rule is often misunderstood and misapplied, leading to unnecessarily complex and large meshes.
Even for simple plates, one element per thickness can be sufficient (sometimes), while for beams and complex geometries, more elements may be needed, but not necessarily two per thickness.
The key is to understand the type of analysis you are doing and the level of accuracy you need. If you only need global stress and stiffness distribution, a simpler mesh may be sufficient.
If you need to capture local stress concentrations or complex deformations, a finer mesh may be necessary, but it is not always necessary to have two elements per thickness.
The video concludes by emphasizing that the two elements per sickness rule is a guideline, not a rule, and that the best mesh size depends on the specific problem you are trying to solve.
