Session 1: Hydrogen: Between affordability, energy security, and diversity Session Focus for Discussion: A hydrogen economy is anticipated to include hydrogen as a globally traded commodity. Due to the multiple pathways to produce clean hydrogen, new entrants will compete with traditional energy exporters. In contrast, importers are expected to seek a multi-dimensional approach seeking affordability, diversity, and energy security, which will affect the geopolitics of energy and reshape energy trade flows. Procuring the raw materials, including precious metals, needed to advance the hydrogen value chain adds another layer of complexity. In this session, we explore the risks and opportunities of the hydrogen economy for MENA countries and potential importers. What is the importance of international collaboration to develop the hydrogen economy? Is there an opportunity for neighboring countries in MENA to cooperate in hydrogen development and trade? How will laws and regulations in importing countries impact future trade flows of hydrogen? There will be a question-and-answer session at the end of the session.
