After three marathons with similar results, I decided something had to change.
So I spent six months building my aerobic base with almost nothing but Zone 2 training.
My easy pace improved. My heart rate dropped. Everything felt like it was working.
Then I started my fifth marathon training block… added speed work… and within weeks I was injured and my season was over.
This wasn’t a beginner mistake. I knew the 80/20 rule. I knew speed work mattered.
But I misunderstood how to build a complete engine.
