Located 100 kilometres southwest of Calgary in the heart of Alberta’s foothills,
Bar U Ranch was designated a national historic site in 1989. Founded in 1882, Bar U Ranch is the only national historic site that commemorates the importance of ranching in Canada.
In 2020, Parks Canada undertook important restoration work including moving the Workhouse Barn off its foundation. The Workhorse Barn is designated as a classified Federal Heritage Building, the same designation as the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa.
