Today I melt half a kilo of silver into one and a half kilos of copper to make Shibuichi. Shibuichi is a Japanese alloy of copper and silver.
This Shibuichi contains 25% silver and 75% copper. I will be casting this copper silver alloy into backgammon counters as part of my cast backgammon set project.
The white counters will be made from Shibuichi with gold inlay and the black counters will be also be Shibuichi with gold inlay. To obtain the black colour liver of sulphur will be used to blacken the metal.
The backgammon board will be cast from pure copper and patinated in various patinas to produce the different colours for the triangular sections.
I am using Petrobond sand to cast the board and gold leaf to inlay the counters.
I will be using my Devil Forge home foundry for melting copper and silver to make this copper silver alloy.
This was my late Dad's backgammon board and being a fan of the game I thought it would be nice to make a casting of it in pure copper and Shibuichi.
Hope you enjoy this video series.
Cheers
Andy
