Today I'm melting a BMW cylinder head, to make some aluminium ingots for future casting projects.
This cylinder head was from a BMW 116i and is 7000 series aluminium containing around 2.3% magnesium and 5.7% zinc. 7000 Series aluminium is one of the strongest aluminium alloys and being a cast alloy, it should be a good choice for future sand casting projects.
It has very low shrinkage compared to 1000 series aluminium which was a poor choice for my last casting project.
Can't beat a bit of BMW Bullion !!!
