What Should My Therapist Wear?

Описание: What should my therapist wear? And how much should they self-disclose?

Graduate school teaches therapists to wear trousers, blouses, sometimes even suites. Private practice teaches therapists to dress comfortably and appropriately. Why the shift? I believe that some of it depends on the therapist's clientele and some about relatability.

For example, I am a therapist who works with teens and young adults. Showing up in a suit might look silly to a 17 year-old! Dressing in a way that makes you feel comfortable, while also looking appropriate is really the goal!

When it comes to self-disclosure- too much is a big no, but a little here and there is relatable and helpful for most clients!
