Описание: The transition of glass wine bottles from 17th-century "shaft-and-globe" forms to 19th-century cylindrical shapes was driven by the practicalities of the international wine trade, specifically the need for more resilient containers capable of horizontal storage. Archaeometric analysis (μ-PIXE and LA–ICP–MS) reveals a dominant chemical profile of high-lime, low-alkali (HLLA) glass throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, with a significant shift toward synthetic soda in the 19th century. Archaeological contexts in Lisbon, Port Royal, and Quebec highlight the role of glassware as both a utilitarian necessity and a status symbol, influenced heavily by trade treaties such as the 1703 Methuen Treaty. Additionally, the study of ancient seals—ranging from Mesopotamian cylinders to 18th-century glass bottle seals—demonstrates the persistent human need for "calling cards" to authorize documents and signal social standing, now preserved through advanced digital scanning techniques.
