How can I proactively talk about consent with my kids?
*You can’t put conditions on the word “no,” it always means no, and when someone says no it’s the other person’s responsibility to stop no matter what.
*To talk openly about healthy boundaries and consent with kids, we recommend reading the book “Good Touch, Bad Touch” and going through it with them.
*You need to talk to your teen about the importance of consent when it comes to having sex. Even if your child would never dream of taking advantage of someone sexually, they need to be prepared for the reality that there are people and attitudes in our society who perpetuate sexual violence.
*Remember that if a child is not of the age of consent in their state, it doesn’t matter if their partner is also underage or if they said “yes”- it is still illegal.
