Sikhism originated in the late 15th century in the Punjab region. It was founded by Guru Nanak Devji, the first of the ten Sikh Gurus who are considered the spiritual leaders of the Sikh community.
Guru Nanak, born in 1469 in the village of Talwandi (now known as Nankana Sahib in Pakistan), was the founder of the Sikh religion and was deeply troubled by the religious and social divisions, rituals and inequalities prevailing in the society. Guru Nanak preached monotheism, equality and devotion to one God. He emphasized the importance of living a true and moral life.
The ten Sikh Gurus were the first ten leaders of Sikhism, founded in India. They include Guru Nanak, Guru Angad, Guru Amar, Guru Ram Das, Guru Arjan, Guru Hargobind, Guru Har Rai, Guru Har Krishan, Guru Teg Bahadur, and Guru Gobind Singh. Sikh scripture, called the Guru Granth Sahib, is referred to as the Final Guru.
Guru Granth Sahib: The holy scripture of Sikhism is the Guru Granth Sahib, which is a collection of hymns and writings by Sikh gurus and other spiritual leaders and is considered the Eternal Guru and is their primary source of guidance and inspiration.
Sikh Principles: The Sikh religion is known for its fundamental principles, often referred to as the "Three Pillars" or "Three Peas": a. Nam Japana: The practice of remembering and meditating on God's name. B. Kritkarni: Engaging in honest and productive labor to earn a living. c Vand Chikna: Sharing one's wealth and resources with others, especially the needy.
Equality and Social Justice: Sikhism emphasizes the equality of all human beings regardless of caste, race, gender, or social status. Sikhs are encouraged to serve humanity and stand against injustice
Sikhism developed as a distinct religion over the centuries, and the Sikhs also faced persecution from various rulers in India. However, they maintained their beliefs and traditions. Today, Sikhism is a major religion with millions of followers worldwide and its principles of equality, justice and sincerity continue to inspire the people of the world.
