The first day on the Camino de Santiago is well known for being a tough one, however the Valcarlos Route is the easier alternative, taking you along the valley floor from St Jean Pied de Port, before climbing up to Roncesvalles at the end of the day.
This Valcarlos Route map lets you see the elevation and terrain you will encounter when walking your first day of the Camino Frances.
