The goal of these warm ups is to improve low 1, 2, high 3/4, and 4th finger tuning, increase 1st, 2nd, and 3rd finger dexterity, and introduce 2 octave scales. These warm ups were composed to be played sequentially but can be done out of order or with skips once students gain mastery of each exercise. The finger pattern is the same within each exercise, so after the exercise is mastered by everyone I will often just do 1-2 strings in each exercise.
Check it out on my TPT at this link:
New Topics:
Violin/Viola - High 3rd finger
Cello - High 4th finger
Bass
Also included:
Open Tuning Sequence
Closed Tuning
D, C Major Scale (2 octave)
16th notes
6/8 time
Advantages of this method:
Builds independence in tuning
Starts vibrato
High 3/4 practice
Scaffolding built in to each exercise & between exercises.
Tutti rests give time for teacher feedback/comment without pausing rehearsal.
The name Mosaic comes from the idea that each instrument family is working on a different concept (tessera) at any time but harmonically each family works together. Tesserae are collections of these individual parts that can be played on top of each other. In this warm up the differences between parts are minimal.
