Over Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, there was a stress test for Ninjala, a battle royale game coming to Nintendo Switch in June. Looks like the pandemic hasn't changed the release date of this game; presumably, it's finished, but they need to figure out how the servers would handle the people playing this game. They had it open for one hour at three intervals, eight hours apart. This one was the second of three, the only one during which I would've been available to play. I was at work during the first one, and I was asleep during the third (and there's no way I'll get up to play this because I have work to do; I am going into overtime right now at the workplace).
Well, as it seems, the servers can't handle it. I heard many other people were saying similar experiences to mine, in that they tried to start playing throughout the whole hour but kept getting that weird error message saying they were at the wrong time or that they couldn't connect to the server, or, in rare cases, got disconnected entirely.
The thing I find odd about this game's structure is that it's entirely online, even parts that don't need to be online, and their own servers at Gungho handle everything. The Terms and Conditions are online, even though they could've built that into the game itself (well, the Exclusive Ninja Club in this case). I can understand having to be online to accept the contract and Privacy Notice, but they could've at least had an external link to avoid additional server stress for something small like this. Apparently, there's a tutorial too, and training modes, and while you're alone in these modes, guess what? You need to be online to access these modes too.
The contracts are about as far as I ever got; I got booted out on all other occasions. That means I couldn't even begin to describe how the game plays in any meaningful detail. Whatever description space I would've allocated for that has, well, gone into this. I was unable to play the tutorial and get the hang of the controls.
For the record, Ninjala (not to be confused with Ninjara, the ARMS character) is a traditional battle royale game. You customize your player character, then have them run around the stage picking up tools and fighting opponents while avoiding getting attacked yourself using techniques a fiction ninja would do, like afterimages and disguising oneself as inanimate objects. Considering there's a mode for 4-person teams, it looks pretty similar to Splatoon without the ink, but I can't say how accutate that statement is.
Would've liked to show you at least one match, and that's what I had intended in advance, but, well, this is what you get to see because this is what I experienced.
