push.pull/edge is an audiovisual composition that uses the sound of figure skating blades as both a musical expression and a sound object.
The first step of this work was to record both movement and blade sound from figure skater, choreographer, and coach Maja Luther in Winterthur, Switzerland. The piece uses amplitude tracking of the blade sound (in real time and slowed down) to control the intonation and volume of pre-recorded organ sounds. Several instances of the video clip are layered at different speeds to affect different layers of the sound.
