Narrator Welcome to etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the Hopkins Smart Hitch Camera and Sensor System. It's gonna be a universal kit that allows you to have a backup camera with a hitch alignment on any vehicle with a 7-way connection. Let's check it out. With the Hopkins Smart Camera Backup System installed, it's gonna be a huge help to those of us out there on the road that don't have backup camera systems in here. So, driving around I don't have towing mirrors.

I just have standard single plain mirrors, and I keep 'em pointed down towards the back tires of my pickup truck, so that way I can use 'em to line up in parking spots, backing up the trailers, but it's also a little unsafe just because I don't really see what's going on next to me. With a backup camera, I can use that to watch behind me, and I can keep my mirrors on the side where they're supposed to be, looking at the side. With the camera system itself, you have an everyday mode which gives you a general backup warning indicator with your green zone, yellow zone, and your red zone for when you get maybe a little too close to something, For the toggle of the button on the side, you can turn on the hitch lines. That's gonna give us two lines of a green zone, two in a yellow zone, and then the single red line is gonna be roughly in line with your hitch ball. Now, as we back up and approach the trailer, you'll hear the camera system start beeping as we approach the green zone, and the yellow zone, it beeps a little faster, like that, and now, with our red zone, it's gonna turn into a constant beep as our ball sits directly underneath of the coupler for hooking up.

Now that we've backed up to the coupler, let's come back outside and see how it did. Eeeeh. It's a little off. You can't completely disregard your own intuition as a driver, and rely entirely on the backup camera system, but it is still a great aid, and it got us directly in line with the coupler. The assembly back here is gonna replace a license plate frame if you had one.

You can see the two smart sensors here on either side, that'll detect objects back here behind the vehicle as you back up or approach a trailer. And, in the center, we have the camera, and it can be adjusted down, or up depending on how this ends up sitting on your vehicle because this is universal kit. So, whether it's lower to the ground, like here, we have it all the way up, or if it sits taller, it can angle it down to get the most out of the visibility of the screen. The wiring to get this all set up is gonna come out of the box ready to connect in between your factory 7-way if you have it on your vehicle. Now, if you don't have a factory 7-way connector on the back, you can still remove that 7-way splice-in, and then hardwire in all those connections.

They do have extra steps in the instructions just in case that's your situation. Even in everyday mode, it's a huge help to have on your vehicle with the smart sensor showing you exactly where you're backing up in places, like parking lots, or even at home in your driveway, The monitor that'll go with this kit inside your vehicle is only gonna be a three and a half inch screen and a 480p resolution. However, you're still able to see plenty on the screen. Using the toggle switch on the side of the monitor, you're able to switch between your everyday and hitch line mode, the brightness of the screen, the contrast, the color, and the sharpness. The Hopkins Smart Camera Backup System is gonna add a lot of functionality to your vehicle that may not have had it to begin with. It's a pretty quick installation as long as you do have that factory 7-way connector. And, that does it for our look today at the Hopkins Smart Hitch Camera System. It's gonna be a great addition to any vehicle that didn't come equipped with a backup camera from the factory..
