Cinco de Mayo at Alpental
Myself, Frisbe, Steph, and some other folks, long before Alpental started to celebrate cinco,
skinned up to the top of chair two at Alpental on CINCO de MAYO after they would USUALLY for many years, close the lift operation's by the last weekend in APRIL or sometimes give a few weekends and then end lift operation by and before May 1. Alpental NEVER celebrated Cinco de Mayo which of course is May 5th.
But my crew did, if fact, we invented the Alpental cinco celebration and Alpental copied us.
I did the tour up the Alpental Fall line after they closed for the season for many years since the1990's. 2006, '07, and '08 found a crew of Alpentolics skinning up and skiing down Internationale and partying, on Cinco de Mayo after they closed for the season.
After that Alpental decided to steal our idea and pretend like they came up with this idea themselves.
BUSTED!

Park And Ride
The Alpental Museum was a great RV rig. It had a woodstove and a piano, that's right you read it right, a piano! It was a magnet for people from all over the Northwest ski areas. I had people from Mount Baker who made special trips down to Lot 3 just to meet me and see the action for themselves!
We had a very cool totally unique LIGHT SHOW DEVICE which lit up the snow slopes at night from Lot 3 with crazy images including detailed images of bugs, ferns, leafs and many other things in extremely high detail!!! This was invented by George Higley a teacher at Snoqualmie Elementary and a friend of mine who lived in Fall City. He did not ski but he would loan me an old high-powered slide projector and impress thick plastic slides that we would then inset them into the projector and project the image in HUGE relief on the side of buildings. He used a heated 30 ton press and used real bees, bugs, leafs and other natural items and press them into the thick plastic slides. Totally amazing!!! I of course brought the show up to Lot 3 and we would project the bugs or whatever in super detail onto the lower Alpental snow slopes and then have a piano jam and sing-along with all the Alpentolics and the tourists.
Well, Powder Magazine guys heard about our tomfoolery and decided they HAD to publish our story in their International Ski Magazine, POWDER. I actually said NO but after a night of partying they showed up at my door when I came down from skiing and got the pictures and subsequently wrote the article with cool shots of me in my ski gear and boots at the piano and the inside of the Alpental museum.
The ORIGINAL hand painted by D. Molenaar TRAIL MAP of The Alpental Ski Area is seen in the magazine and I still have it in my living room up on the wall!
Those days were incredible. Lots of friends and musicians and skiers and snowboarders all gathered together creating amazing times with great friends. We played at night around huge fires in the parking lot and later in the evening in the museum with the warm woodstove, the piano playing and us singing, and then during the day we skied and skied and skied the shit out of Alpental and the back-country!
If you want to ski, you have to be there
Cory from Crystal Mountain
These video's may be the most comprehensive, informative, historical, entertaining, creative, and interesting documentation of the Alpental Ski Area, lot 3, the complex back-country and the famous Alpentolics during Alpental's greatest seasons and massive snow-packs. All when the wondrous, magical and never forgotten CHAIR TWO spun us up, so we could go down, and before the take-over and ruination of our public land by the evil ski corporations.
Alpental BC 1990 through 2010.
