This of course is a Frank Zappa composition form the Album, Were Only In For The Money and I love it! Frank is my hero in all circumstances. His "music" has been extremely compelling in my life ever since I first heard Lumpy Gravy when I lived (1974) in the second house ever built on the east-side of the Seattle area in what later became Woodinville Washington. This house was OLD! It is said that this true northwest farmhouse was built by the guy that built the FIRST house (on the east-side) which was on the adjoining property directly across from the Gold Creek Dome on the west side of the valley very near what is now San Michelle Winery. He brought the full dimension lumber for this house on a horse driven buckboard around the north end of Lake Washington on a trail/road that is now Bothell way which turns into Lake City Way as you go into Seattle. His great grandson was our neighbor and is a well known personality from the olden days of Seattle and was our friend, Elmer Carlsburg. Elmer was a Post Intelligencer newspaper reporter for some 36 years in Seattle. When I met Elmer he was 94 years young and he helped us put in our mailbox. We were a group of what I used to call "freaks" or better described as "Forest Freaks" as we were living and working as trail builders and Forest Fire Fighters in the high-country of the Cascade Mountains in helicopter camps living and working for the Washington State DNR at the mountain tops in the alpine. This was in the Sultan Basin area. We built the Bald Mountain Trail System, The Cutthroat Lakes Trail, the Greider Lake Trail, the Boulder Lake Trail and part of the Mount Pilchuck trail system, the Reflection Ponds Trail System and the Ashland Lakes Trail System. That was during the summer, in winter, I worked in the San Juan Islands traveling by boat to beach access only state land and building trails and picnic and camping sites on remote Islands and places. Cattle Point, Strawberry Island, Lummi Island, Olga Beach on Orcas Island and other Orcas Island trails and picnic sites and James Island Camping and picnic sites. This was an amazing time. It was during the end of the Vietnam war and we worked with Conscientious Objectors (CO's) from all over the United States flying around the mountains in helicopters and living in the forest and near the tops of the peaks. It was a lot LIKE being in the service, I mean actually in Nam flying around the wild mountain tops in Huey's with amazing young men teaching me things about life. I was drafted in 1975 but did not have to go as the Federal government pulled out of Vietnam the year I was drafted. Nixon ended the draft and I was never contacted to go. You can visit the house that was next door to my "forest cult family" in Mill Creek. They disassembled that house piece by piece and moved it to Mill Creek because it is such a unique farmhouse with a round tower and very special patterned shake siding and a giant scroll feature off the front porch, a one of a kind authentic northwest farmhouse that has been preserved by some very smart people with excellent foresight. The house we lived in next door burned to the ground in an incredible fury on Halloween night 1978.
Zappa's influence was powerful for me then and I am so grateful to have his music in my life as it makes life super-amazing and enjoyable and reminds you to never be bored. I am so lucky to get to listen to Frank and know that their are genius creative and sensible people like that. Thanks Franky and thanks to his whole family for the work they do to keep us in the Zappa loop, good going y'all!!! I am sure Frank would have been elected president and that is why he was murdered.
