💪🏽 Collagen actually does almost nothing for building muscle
Here’s why:
Over 55% of collagen is just glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline.
That sounds fancy, but it’s missing the key amino acids your muscles need.
To trigger muscle growth, you need the leucine threshold, around 2.5 grams of leucine.
Collagen only has about 2 to 2.5% leucine.
That means you’d need to take over 100 grams of collagen just to activate that anabolic switch.
And even if you did, it still can’t build muscle because it’s missing tryptophan, one of the essential amino acids.
So your body literally can’t finish the job.
💡 Bottom line:
Collagen is great for hair, skin, and joints
Collagen is terrible for muscle building or recovery
If you want muscle and faster recovery, stick to whey, egg, or a complete plant protein.
Use collagen as a bonus, not your base.
