At the Indigenous Food Lab, cedar and juniper are our plant relatives with so much knowledge to share. Working together with them, we honor their gifts in every dish and sip.
Cedar is naturally anti-inflammatory, supports the lungs, and offers a warm, woodsy flavor with hints of citrus. We use it in teas, seasoning blends, and even when braising meats.
Juniper, with its bright, piney taste, supports digestion, helps reduce inflammation, and is added to foods as a flavorful spice, especially delicious with game meats.
Make Your Own Cedar Tea
Add 3–4 cedar stems to 1 quart of water.
Simmer gently (don’t boil) for 7–10 minutes.
Strain the stems and pour into your favorite mug.
Discard the stems outside, giving thanks and returning them to the earth.
For a little sweetness, try adding maple syrup, it’s like a warm sip of the forest after it rains.
