NWCFL First Division North
Ashton Town 2 - Droylsden FC 2
ATT: 275
In our third of 5 successive away games, The Bloods travelled down the East Lancs, to Ashton-In-Makerfield, and a match with Ashton Town in the NWCFL First Division North.
It was a feisty afternoon against mid-table Ashton Town at the Bartons Group Stadium, in very cold conditions, with the Bloods picking up a point, despite having 'Keeper, Phillip Pole sent off 10 minutes into the Second Half.
The First Half was relatively event free, with the highlight being Ashton's no.6 Michael Burke getting into a full-blown argument with one of the Ashton coaching staff. Droylsden had the majority of the play, but just couldn't find the finish, as the teams went into the break at 0-0.
The Second Half started the same way as the first, but the home side took the lead in the 53rd minute through a William Hamilton header. With Phillip Pole a bit too late in coming out for a cross, Hamilton looped a header over Pole, and into an empty net. Pole's afternoon got a whole lot worse just 2 minutes later, when he was harshly sent off for a challenge on an Ashton attacker. Pole was deemed to be the last man by the Referee (despite Elvis Amoakwa being a covering defender), and Pole was shown the Red card, with Debutant winger Harry Dean replacing him in goal.
Going down to 10 men seemed to galvanise the Bloods, and in the 69th minute, Tawab Djankpata was upended in the box after a great run down the right-hand side, and Caelan Kilheeney put away the resulting spot kick to make it 1-1. Parity didn't last for long however, and Ashton Town retook the lead in the 75th minute with George Lomax sliding the ball past makeshift 'Keeper Dean, and into the bottom corner, leading Ashton 'Keeper Kyle Trenerry to give the travelling Droylsden fans a bit of stick. Trenerry was soon quietened down again, as Kyle Foley finished from close range immediately from the kick off, again after some fantastic work by Djankpata down the right-hand side.
Tempers flared going into the closing stages of the match, as the challenges flew in, with a particularly heavy one on Connor Brotherton making Blood's Physio Bradley Donoghue enter the pitch to confront the Ashton assailant, an action Donoghue saw a Red card for. The full time whistle came fairly soon after to end the heated game at 2-2.
The draw leaves both teams in the same position they had started the day, with Droylsden in 3rd, and Ashton Town in 10th.
Next up for the Bloods is another trip to Marley stadium in Keighley, this time to play Route One Rovers, on the 15th February.
