Following our shock defeat at home to Daisy Hill (and then a weekend off), the Bloods needed to their title challenge back on track with a visit to Brocstedes Park, and a match with Ashton Athletic.

In a relatively one-sided affair, the away team dominated the game, with 3 second half goals giving the final scoreline a more truer reflection of their performance.

Droylsden made three changes from the Daisy Hill match, with a fit-again Liam Moran coming in for Owen Whitehead, Kyle Foley replacing Ben Lowe, and new boy Daniel McLaughlin, signed this week from Stockport Town, coming in for the departing Nellson Van, who has since signed for Hyde United.

The Bloods first goal came on the quarter hour mark, when a Harry Forshaw corner from the left hand side was too high for Ashton's debutant Keeper Michael Shorthouse, and floated straight into the goal... Possibly via a touch from a Ashton Defender/Daniel McLaughlin, but Forshaw was credited with the goal.

Droylsden spent the majority of the first half pushing for a second, but couldn't find the finish, as the teams went in at Half time with the Bloods a goal to the good!

The away team got off to a fantastic start in the second half, after a trademark surge forward from Tawab Djankpata ended with a neat one-two with Daniel McLaughlin, and the Droylsden number 2 finishing nicely to double the Bloods lead.

In the 73rd minute, Droylsden made it 3-0 thanks to a thoroughly deserved goal from new boy McLaughlin, following some fine work by Fuad Kasali down the right-hand side. Kasali's cross was turned in first time from McLaughlin to put an end to the game as any form of contest.

There was still time for a Droylsden 4th, as Harry Forshaw was upended in the box by Ashton Right Back Conal Larkin, with the referee pointed to the spot.... a decision which was possibly a little harsh on the Ashton number 2. Caelan Kilheeney then took the penalty duties as normal, and fired the ball into the bottom right corner for his 10th goal of the season.

Both teams then played out the final 5 minutes plus stoppage time, before the referee called an end to the game, with the Bloods 4-0 winners.

Following the result, Droylsden remain in 3rd, with the top of the table tightening up following Nelson's 3-1 loss to Darwen. With both first and second playing each other in the next matchday, Droylsden can gain more ground on them, but themselves have a tricky home game against 4th place Holker Old Boys.
