Never before have I hiked the Tongariro Alpine Crossing or the Tongariro Northern Circuit which is one of New Zealand's Great Walks, without hordes of people diminishing the Tongariro World Heritage Site's dramatic natural volcanic beauty and that sense of being isolated in a sacred and spiritually cultural destination.

This epic hiking adventure largely thanks to the Covid lockout and the wild weather, treated us with the most unforgettable alpine experience which we are unlikely to ever repeat again on what is normally an overcrowded tourist mecca.
