Running from a Sovereign God | Jonah 1 Bible Study

This video begins a four-part study through the book of Jonah. In this first session, we explore Jonah chapter 1, looking at the historical setting of the prophet Jonah, the political world of Israel and Assyria, and the surprising actions of both Jonah and the sailors during the storm at sea.

Along the way we consider questions such as:

• Why did Jonah flee from God’s calling?
• What does the sailors’ response reveal about God’s sovereignty?
• How does Jonah 1 show that God continues to work even when His people fail?

This study is designed for thoughtful readers of Scripture, whether you are studying on your own or discussing the passage with a small group. The goal is to read the text carefully, understand its context, and reflect on what it reveals about God’s character.
