Mount Whitney Sunrise -- Overnight at Trail Camp

Описание: I managed to get an overnight permit for same day entry at 11:30 AM after spending 2 days camped at Big Pine Lakes.

I loaded up enough food and supplies, bear locker for the rest, and then I ate some lunch at the Portal Store. I then got on the trail from Whitney Portal at 2:30 PM. I hiked up the Whitney main trail and got into trail camp at ~6:30 PM. I set up camp, ate dinner and then set my alarm for 02:30 AM to hit the trail up Whitney for a sunrise summit.

I got on the trail around 2:30-2:40 AM and was chasing to catch headlamps while pushing up the pace needed on the switchbacks. I eventually got to trail crest at 4:05 AM and had to push a consistent pace on the backside of Whitney to manage summit. I summited Mt. Whitney (14' 505 ft. ) at 5:30 AM and was treated to a sunrise on the horizon from the highest place in the lower 48.

What a day to be alive and atop a mountain! The next time I do Whitney it will likely be with Jasper.
